In the southern edge of Delhi, where the city’s urban sprawl meets the ancient contours of the Aravalli hills, lies Arjangarh—a

site where tradition, defense infrastructure and ecological memory converge. At the heart of this layered landscape is the Guru

Shyam Lal Akhara, a traditional wrestling ground that has long served as a crucible of physical discipline, moral instruction

and community cohesion. This ongoing research project seeks to map the cultural, historical and environmental

entanglements of Arjangarh, positioning the akhara not only as a site of sport, but as a living archive of embodied knowledge

and resistance. Arjangarh is a living archive of bodily practice, technological improvisation and ecological stewardship. By

foregrounding the akhara as a site of cultural continuity, and juxtaposing it with the Ridge and the radar station, this project

proposes a way of reading where urban space—one that is attentive to the rhythms of the body, the layers of history and the

urgencies of the environment. It calls for a situated urbanism—an approach that honors the specificities of place, the wisdom

of communities and the entangled futures of tradition and modernity.
